SSB: Toasted Cedar

Shou-Sugi-Ban is an ancient Japanese finishing technique originally used for house siding because it naturally resists fire, rot and insects.

"Toasted" is a variation on the Shou-Sugi-Ban technique where the wood is charred then hand brushed to reveal the gorgeous toasted wood just under the black and crispy exterior. The resulting finish is overall very smooth with a textured feel of the raised dark grain, and a satin sheen.

As with all of our Shou-Sugi-Ban, there are no dyes, stains or pigments used in the process. All color is derived from the 100% natural process and hand-finished.

The wood surface is treated with a natural sealer in order to prevent transferring the charred material to other surfaces upon contact. This wood can handle a lot of contact without any transfer of dust or charred material and is great for use in shelving, walls, siding, furniture, ceilings and anywhere else you want a dark and beautiful natural accent.
